We started our own activities using new technologies and by trasporting voice traffic
through data networks instead of using the traditional phone network (PSTN).
The first test phase was implemented in partnership with the Information & Communication
Technology Research and Development Center of the Univerity (CINECA).
The next step was the deployment of a test platform linking our headquarters in
Pavullo nel Frignano (Modena), the CINECA (Universities of Bologna and Venezia)
and the European Spatial Agency (ESA-ESRIN in Frascati, Roma) in order to test different
equipments and determine the best voice compression algorithm to use.
Today we have a network of 15 POP (Point of Presence) mainly distributed in northern
Italy, but with a growing international business, which allows us to better work
in different markets and offer a better service. The number of our employees has
grown to 15 and we closed CY’04 with 17M Euros of revenues.
Our technical staff has developed a very high know-how on the VoIP technology. Moreover
both the billing system and the network and voice traffic management and provisioning
systems have been developed in-house with this technology in mind.
One of the most important advantages coming from the adoption of the VoIP technology
is the possibility to quickly add/modify new or existing interconnections with international
carriers. This is a significant advantage compared to traditional interconnections
that are usually implemented with dedicated links and thus result not flexible and
expensive.
In addition we’re able, when needed, to manage interconnections with companies whose
equipment is based on traditional technology (TDM).
